Creating a Protected Space

Overview

Protected Spaces are Shared Spaces that require coordinated approval from multiple participating Safes before protected content opens. Use them for data where one Safe must not be enough to open the Space by itself.

Before You Start

  • Use a Safe and tier that supports Protected Spaces.
  • Collect the participant Receive Addresses.
  • Decide who needs to participate in approvals.
  • Create a new Space for this workflow; existing Spaces are not converted into Protected Spaces.

Create the Protected Space

  1. Open Space management.
  2. Start creating a new Space.
  3. Enter a clear Space name.
  4. Choose the protected option.
  5. Add the participant Receive Addresses.
  6. Review the approval setup.
  7. Complete the wizard to send the protected Space setup messages.

Participant Approval

Each participant Safe opens the protected Space setup message and approves the protected Space. The Space becomes usable after the required participants complete the setup flow.

Opening a Protected Space

  1. Open the Protected Space.
  2. Follow the approval prompts.
  3. Wait for the required participating Safes to approve.
  4. Open the protected content after the approval policy is satisfied.

Important Limits

  • Protected Spaces are created as protected from the start.
  • Protected Spaces do not support Space backups.
  • Protected Spaces are managed from Space management, not from the normal message composer.
  • A Protected Space shares only that Space, not the rest of any participant Safe.

Troubleshooting

  • Participant does not see the invite: refresh the inbox and confirm the Receive Address was entered correctly.
  • Protected Space does not open: confirm enough participating Safes approved the request.
  • Backup button is missing: this is expected. Protected Spaces do not support backups.
  • Need to protect existing data: create a new Protected Space and move or recreate the required data there.
